HLTAID001 - Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation

This course is included in the HLTAID003 – Provide first aid course.
The HLTAID001 – Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) course provides the candidate with the skills and practical knowledge of CPR that can be applied to save and preserve a life in accordance with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) Guidelines. This course is developed for those who may be required to provide a first aid response in a range of situations, including sporting, community, workplace and home environments.

All participants in this course must complete 3 hours of face to face training (including assessment). There are minimal pre-reading/study requirements, as each participant will be sent reading material prior to course commencement.
We prefer all participants to be 13 years or older. However, we will accept participants younger than this, as long parents/guardians are with them during the course. Participants under the age of 18 are required to provide a consent form, signed by their parent or legal guardian. While there are no pre-requisites for this course, it is recommended that participants have sufficient literacy, language and numeracy (LLN) skills to successfully complete the course. If a participant feels they need individual LLN support, please contact our office on 02 4382 3055.
Under legislation, there is a physical component to this course. Participants will be required to participate in role play activities, practical assessments and be able to perform 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR on their knees on the floor. This may disadvantage some participants, so please contact our office to discuss your suitability.
The HLTAID001 – Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) course will teach the vital skills and knowledge required to administer a First Aid response, life support, management of casualties or injuries and other basic medical assistance. It can be completed by anyone, however we suggest a minimum age of 13.
You will learn about:
• Legal issues
• The Chain of Survival
• Awareness of an Defibrillator (AED)
• The DRSABCD of Resuscitation
• Two (2) minutes of uninterrupted CPR
• Whilst using a manikin, partake in demonstrations and practical scenarios
• Hygiene
• Choking methods
• Drowning management
Successful participants will gain a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment with the unit of competency: HLTAID001 – – Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

HLTAID003 - Provide First Aid

This course includes the HLTAID001 – Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) course.
Previously known as Senior First Aid and Apply First Aid, this HLTAID003 – Provide first aid course will provide you with the fundamental principles and practical knowledge of first aid and CPR that can be applied to save and preserve a life in accordance with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) Guidelines. This course is developed for those who may be required to provide a first aid response in a range of situations, including sporting, community, workplace and home environments.
This course runs over 8 hours of face to face training (including assessment). There are pre-reading/study requirements, and each participant will be sent reading material prior to course commencement.
We prefer all participants to be 13 years or older. However, we will accept participants younger than this, as long parents/guardians are with them during the course. Participants under the age of 18 are required to provide a consent form, signed by their parent or legal guardian. You will learn about:
• Assessing the scene of an incident
• Conducting primary assessment of the casualty
• Providing basic life support (CPR) for adult, child and infant
• Management of the following areas:
• external and internal bleeding
• shock and wounds
• environmental conditions, thermal burns and other burns
• poisons, bites and stings
• medical emergencies
• sprains, strains, dislocations and fractures
All our First Aid training courses includes the three hour CPR training, and try to limit the number of participants for each class which provides numerous opportunities to have hands-on practice and attention.
Successful participants who satisfactory demonstrate competency in both theory and practical assessments will receive a Statement of Attainment – ‘HLTAID003 – Provide First Aid’. Participants will be valid for three (3) years in line with ARC guidelines. However, your CPR component is renew annually under the ARC guidelines.
